Happy New Year!!!
I can't believe another year has started. We had a quiet New Year with just my youngest son here. As usual we made some snacks and talked a little about the coming year. My eldest son almost died one New Year when he was about 2 after a accident with a babysitter after a few days in the ICU when we knew he would be okay I said I would never go out on New Years again, and we haven't. We always stayed in with our kids, made appetizers and talked about our resolutions and maybe watched a movie. My kids thought it was fun-at least I think they did. This is the first year our group was so small. My husband made his delicious Chinese dumplings which we will have more of tonight.
I have gotten a lot of work done on my Trail Jacket designed by Hannah Fettig of Knitsbot fame. I love the sweater and pattern but I am afraid I may run out of yarn. The yarn is from Quince & Company out of (you should know by now) Maine. It is called Osprey which is aran weight in the peacock color. If I need to send out for more yarn and can't match the dye lot I was thinking I would do the garter stitch ribbing along the
bottom ,sleeves.and neck in this new skein ao yarn and everything should work out .Another thing I like to do this time of year is to force some bulbs. It is so easy. Just buy some bulbs. Put some small stones in the bottom of different containers and place the bulbs in . Put some water about halfway covering the bulbs and put in a cool dark space for about a week to ten days. Take out the bulbs, add a little more water and put in a sunny spot. Magic They seem to take off! I plant more bulbs at about 10 day intervals and we have great flowers for the month of January at least.
While my daughter was home for the holidays she helped me design a business type card. She is really good at this.
Last but not least my reading. I finished "The Marriage Plot"by Jeffrey Eugenides. I really liked this book and I would recommend it. I have started "The Tiger's Wife" by Tea Obreht. This is this author's first novel. It is about a doctor in the Balkan's during and after the war told through folktale type stories told about her much loved grandfather who has just died. I do not like this book. I am about half done and I say to myself why do I keep reading this? Because I don't like it I won't remember it a week from now but no I have to be a good girl and finish it. Maybe I won't. I just want a good story. I don't want to try to figure out what the author is trying to say. I want agood read. Any suggestions?? Books read are available at Amazon.com. Speaking of Amazon I got a Kindle Fire as a holiday gift. I hate it. I even wrote to Amazon about it. I had one of the original Kindles and I love it . As a matter of fact I have been using it when I get too frustrated with my new Kindle Fire. My husband says I should play around with it a little more but even he was frustrated with it this weekend. I still like reading a actual book better but I must admit the Kindle is nice for traveling and trying samples before you buy a book. I also like all the classics you can get for free. Well Happy New Year everyone! Peace to All.
