November almost here

Hi
well this month has just sped by.I have not gotten many of my knitting projects finished.  I ended up ripping out the whole "Trail Jacket" by Hannah Fetig. The buttonholes just looked terrible.  I need some help with them .  I have been knitting long enough that I should have these techniques down so I am going to try again.  The vest by Hannah Fetig in Quince &Co. Sparrow linen yarn has been coming along since it is the only thing I have been working on.  I will show a picture of all the scarves I made this summer using String Theory sock yarn or Madeline Tosh sock yarn.  I wanted simple knitting this summer and fall when I was "back east"as they say in Arizona .

I have also been doing some reading .I thought "The Burgess Boys" by Elizabeth Strout was wonderful.  One of the best books I have read in a long time.I have read 4or 5 other books but I am only going to mention 2 here.  First is'& Sons " by David Young.  It has gotten a lot of good reviews.  But I will tell you it is TERRIBLE. I got about 200 hundred pages in out of a 400 or so page book and the author revealed something about the youngest son that is just so ridiculous I closed the book and took it back to the library.  The next book is "Enon" by Paul Harding again awful.  I have found I like woman authors so much better than men.  I go to male authors with hope but except for a few they always disappoint me. I am looking forward to reading Wally Lamb and I usually like Stewart O'nan and a few others but otherwise I just don't like the way they write fiction. All books available at Amazon.com..

messed up last blog

Last blog did not come out that neat but I can't figure out how undue the mistakes so i started a new one since I wanted to mention several books I read. First up is "The Violet Hour" by Katherine Hill.  This book started out pretty good.  It is about 2 people their life, marriage, families, over about a 30 year period but it got bogged down, none of the characters were very interesting and I got bored with the whole thing.  "The affairs of Others" by Amy Grace Loyd this book went down hill quick.A young widow has a house in Brooklyn-a large house broken into 4 or 5 other apartments and she is the landlord.  Again I liked none of the characters and it became "50 Shades of Grayish" terrible.
I have several other books I read but none of them were that good so I am not going to even talk about them.  When this happens I think about reading some classics I never had time to read.

east coast trip

I recently returned to Arizona after spending several weeks on the East Coast.  I had a great time.Visited with my sisters, parents and my daughter in Boston.  This post will be about my trip with little about my knitting. While on my trip I worked on 2 shawls.  I needed small projects that I could travel with on plane, train, and bus so I don't have much to show. On a sad note I found out one of my favorite yarn stores Purl Diva in Brunswick Maine is closing.  It was a great yarn store with the nicest staff. Fortunately there are plenty of other yarn stores in Maine.
I went to the Common Ground Fair in Unity Maine.  This fair is unique to Maine- It is a celebration of the rural life and all products must be made in Maine.  Food is all local and must be organic.  It is quite a sight and a lot of fun.  There are all kinds of farming classes.
