Reading

I've been doing some reading but searching for a really good read. Sometimes I think maybe I should try some classics because so much fiction know is just plain crummy.  I have been reading "One Day" by David Nicholls.  It just seems sad.  If the movie is like the book I can see why the movie flopped.  I am about 350 pages into the book so I guess I will finish it but I don't think it will end happy.  I finished "The Year We Left Home"  by Jean Thompson which was just okay.  Abook I had really high hopes for that I actually bought it in hardcover was "and I shall some peace there"  by Margaret Roach was really bad.  It is about a 50ish year old woman who worked for Martha Stewart who quit to live in the country.  She went on and on about frogs in her garden and revealed very little about herself. So for so long between blogs but a lot of personal stuff happening here.  I am working on a sweater that was almost done last weekend but had to be ripped out .  I hope to take some pictures and show it soon.  My next knitting project is going to be something I really love with some yarn from Maine. It has been so hot here 114.  Some days 100 at 8am.

books

I did some reading in Maine.  The first is called "Maine" by J. Courtney Sullivan.  It was a great summer read but well written and the author really knew Maine.  I also liked "The Paris Wife " by Paula McLain.  This was about Ernest Hemingways first wife.  If you saw Woody Allen's movie Midnight in Paris it a nice tie in.  i even was inspired to read Hemmingway but did not get far.  Now I am reading "and I shall have some peace there"  by Margret Roach.  It is about a woman in her 50's who gives  up here job at Martha Stewart to move to here country house where she starts a gardening blog and ends up with a book deal. Let you know what I think I just stated it last night.  I decided to have one media free day a week and it is Wednesday.  I just can't deal with the news.

madelinetosh tea leaves cardigan

I have been working on this madelinetosh tea leaves cardigan .I got the yarn from my favorite yarn store in Maine Purl Diva.  The yarn is from String Theory in Blue Hill Maine. The women at Sting Theory hand dye the yarn . It is just beautiful and the pictures don't do the yarn justice.  I really enjoyed making this sweater.  It is knit from the top down so it is fun and easy with nothing to sew together Yeah!!!!! I hate the finishing process.  It always looks so sloppy to me.  I really need to have someone teach me the right way to finish sweaters. The yarn color is called colbalt and is merino DK wool 5-6 stitches /inch on a US #6 needle.  I met the women from String Theory at the Maine Fiber Frolic in June and bought some lovely silk/wool yarn. The Fiber Frolic is a wonderful event with people from all over New England showing there yarn and fiber related products as well as selling sheep, goats, etc.

second post

Wanted to try this out again to make sure I remembered what to do.
Kinda depressed and homesick for Maine.  My oldest son is going back to Washington on Saturday and my daughter getting ready to leave for junior year.  So soon it will just be my husband, youngest son, and me.
