long time between updates

Today is Sunday and I am not in the mood for this but I feel it has been so long since my last posting I have to write something. I don't know where the time has gone.  It is time to be thinking about going up to Maine.  I can't wait.We went to Washington D.C . last week to see my oldest son.  While we were there my son had a kidney stone attack.  He had one before when he was in high school. At least we were there to go to the E.R. with him.  He had a doctors appointment  this week and it seems like he passed the stone. That is a relief.  We had a fun visit anyway.  Now for my knitting.  I have at least 6 projects going on now.  I love to start a project then I get bored and I start something else.  This weekend I made a list of my projects and have tried to work on all of them for a little bit.  I finished the "Rocky Coast Cardigan" a Hannah Fettig design which I love.  I am also working on "Simple Thing Shawlette" in String Theory Caper sock yarn.  This is a mindless pattern I started on the plane to Washington, but I love that String Theory Yarn.  I think the pattern is a free download on Raverly.  I am doing a KAL with my friends at Jessica Knits.  The pattern is called "The Slink"  a cute scarf pattern .  I am using yarn called SMC reflect .  It is a blend of cotton and rayon that I bought at Jessica Knits that is very drapey and perfect for the pattern.
I have been doing a fair amount of reading. First "Carry the One" by Carol Anshaw.  It is reviewed in this Sunday's NYTimes.  I liked this a lot.  It spans 30 years starting in1983 a group of family and friends are at a wedding are driving back to their hotel slightly drunk and accidentally kill a 10 year old girl and how this effects their lives.  It sounds depressing but it isn't.  "The Starboard Sea" by Amber Dermot now this is depressing.  It is 'a" Separate Peace" updated.  This got good reviews but I don't know.  I read a mindless mystery "patterns In the Sand" by Sally Goldenbaum.  This is the second in a series .  It involves a yarn store,a group of friends at this yarn store, and a murder.  Of course there is discussion of yarn and food.  It is fun light reading.  Lastly "Slow Life" by Dominique Browning ,the editor of "House Beautiful" magazine who loses her job and moves to a house in Rhode Island and reinvents her life.  I liked this book.  She is about my ageand ,her kids are in college.  She is a pretty good and witty writer.  All these books are available at Amazon.com.I will show you pictures of my knitting next week when the shawls are farther a long. Peace
