quick visit to arizona

I am sorry I have not done a post in awhile.  First,a couple of days after mother's day my daughter and I came down with Salmonella poisoning. I was so sick.I had a fever of 103 for about 5 days that wouldn't break and I couldn't eat or drink anything.  It took me about a month to feel like myself.  My son had his graduation from high school during this and I felt so bad that I was ruining his graduation.  I was so proud of him.  He was valedictorian of his class and gave a wonderful speech but we couldn't go out to dinner like we planned since my daughter and I couldn't eat. I left for Maine on May 27 even though I still didn't feel right.  I saw my parents in Connecticut and spent some time with my sisters.  I did no reading or reading for over a week so you know how sick I was.  In Maine I went to the Fiber Frolic at the Windsor Fair Grounds.  It was fun but not like the first time I went.  The first time I thought I had gone to heaven. This year the weather was not that great.  Went first to the women from String Theory in Blue Hill Maine.  They have the most beautiful yarn and I did some damage there.  I also stopped in at Purl Diva in Brunswick.  They carry that Beautiful Quince and Company yarn.  I bought enough for several projects.  The women that work there are great check out their blog and you will get a feel for the shop.My husband came up the last weekk I was there.  We went out to dinner by ourselves! We haven't had a vacation alone in a couple of years.  I am back in Arizona for a week to organize some things and spend fourth of July with my family.I did do some reading in Maine.  I will talk about a few of the books today.  Hopefully I will do another post before I go with more books and pictures of some knitting projects.First book is "The Red Book" by Deborah Copaken Kogan.  This book is about 4 friends who went to Harvard and meeting again for there 20th reunion and all that happened to them since graduation.  It was a good story.  Nothing to heavy duty-a good vacation book.
2. "Arcadia" by Lauren Goff This is probably one of the best books I have read in years!  I LOVE this bookother people may not feel this way .  It is told through the eyes of a 5year old boy and follows him for the next 50 years.  He lives on a commune in upstate New York and starts with the idealistic beginning and then things fall apart.  But it makes you think about community, family, friendship and

being a better person.  Her writing is beautiful at times.  I hated to see this book end.3."Gossip" by Beth Guterson I have read things by this author before.  This takes place in New England and New York over a 40 year period starting in the 60's.  So it reminded me of the "Mad Men' It is a good beach book.
4."The Most Dangerous Thing" by Laura Lippman This is a engrossing mystery.  Four friends are reunited after the death of one of them and they have a secret.  Great for a plane ride.  The ending is not satisfying.don't these authors have and idea for the ending?
5."The Grief of Others" by Leah Hager Cohen This was another book I liked.  A good story about a family with problems that get worse after the death of their baby.  The only unbelievable parts were how clueless the parent were about the problems of their other 2 kids
I always think I will read some classic novels over the summer-Tolstoy Dickens but I usually don't and it is happening again this summer.
I am going to stop now and make a apricot pie.
